While our immigration system hasn't changed much, the world has.
More than two million people are waiting to be granted asylum in the US.
However, it may take up to five years for their application to be processed.
In the meantime, immigrants have to find a way to survive in the city, while trying to build a future in a foreign country.
With no work visa, shelter, food or money, our immigrants are struggling mentally and physically.
Our primary goal is to provide free English classes:
Here, at L'ecole de la vie, we believe that being able to speak the language will help refugees communicate, socialize and bond with New Yorkers.
In addition to English classes, we aim to provide workshops on finance, American culture, mental health, and civil rights.
This could allow them to have access to better opportunities and provide for their families.
Remember, migrants left their home countries to escape extreme poverty, crime, and prosecution. So help us make their journey successful.
